There’s Beatrice, but not enough of what she can be. Here there’s cruelty, but without much crackle there’s power, but never really pleasure in the wielding of it. She was bullied, and now her children are bullied: The cycle simply continues.īut we see only hints of the other side of Beatrice: the unleashed, entertaining fire of this showboating Momzilla, which is pretty much the reason this play exists. That’s exacerbated when Beatrice hears a shattering taunt from her childhood. We understand Beatrice, sympathize with her: Reality played her an awful card.
